Brake disc noise.

My front discs have started to squeal at low speed or when nearly stopped. At high speed I have no problem at all. There is no judder, and I have even tried new pads. Plenty of copper grease applied to back of pads, but still they squeal. This is driving me nuts, I am even considering new discs. I even tried cleaning the discs and lightly buffing them with some very smooth emery paper, this stopped it for about a day and then they started again. Any hints or clues to probable cause.
Many thanks again,
Chris.

Here's why brakes squeal...
the discs have grooves in them from wear...and the pads have coresponding ridges...as the two come together the pad viberates as the grooves and ridges line up...
Jim

Hey, have you installed the pads with their corresponding shims? It's often said that those metal pieces are meant to absorbe hi-freq vibrations that cause the screeching noise.
'97 Blue/Black Ace
'98 Gold/Black TDM

I forgot to mention I have R1 calipers fitted. There were no shims in them when I replaced the original pads, so I assumed this was standard R1 stuff. The pads I replaced were quite worn and the discs, although not badly scored, have definitely seen some use. I think I might have to get some newer discs, but being a skinflint, was trying to keep the cost down. Maybe some more miles on the new pads will see a noise reduction. They are not fully bedded in yet, some brake manufacturers quote up to 400 or 500 miles before fully bedded in. I have only done about 100 yet.
Cheers for your replies,
Chris.
