The Great OHLINS - YAMAHA - FZR1000 - YZF750 Debate!

Post by jjs777 »

There's been many folks that have hinted that because of the Yamaha - Ohlins relationship in the 90's - that Ohlins parts trickled into the FZR1000.

I hope this helps answer those questions. It was no help that certain articles hinted that Ohlins MUST have played a role in the suspension tuning of the FZR1000 notably the 94-95 models. I never understood that assertion when both the GSXR-1100 and the FZR1000 came equipped with the formidable Kayaba stanchions since the very beginning.

This answer came direct from Jerry at Ohlins-Sweden.

Yamaha started to show interest in Öhlins in the mid 1980's
The following models where equipped with Öhlins shocks, no Öhlins forks:
FZR 750 R, OW 01 late -80's early -90's
YZF 750 R mid 90's
YZF 750 SP mid 90's

And the R 7 that had both shock and forks.

We never made any OEM stuff for 1000 cc Yamaha's.
There you go.
