Fzr250 Troubles

Post by dundasunited »

Hi guys I'm from sydney Australia and am having a few problems with my fzr250 it's a 3LN.

When I first bought the bike it started fine and idle'd fine then after riding it I noticed if i had it in gear at low revs (below 4000rpm) it would want to stall and I would have to try and keep the revs right up, to my knowledge the power band is above 6000rpm but it still should not want to stall at low revs right?
Next after a few stalls it wouldn't start cuz the battery went flat, I charged it and after that it started once then wouldn't idle stalled and wouldn't start again at all just turned over.
I gave it to a mechanic who charged me $150AUD and wrote the following report on it.

2 Hours - Removed seat tank + fairings, removed radiator, removed plugs, checked compression. compression very low.
Spark plugs fouled. Fit spark plugs. engine started. Removed carbs + check settings, choke OK, etc. found rust in float bowls, from fuel tank. Reassembled + tune etc.
Run engine + tune + balance carbs, running ok. stalled on throttle increase. engine wouldn't run again.
after a day or soit started then fouled the spark plugs again, indicating a problem that is likely to be caused by lack of compression.

He said there was almost no compression in the cylinders (all of them) I got the bike back and it wouldn't start just the same as when I gave it to the mechanic.
Today however I turned the choke on full and just left my finger on the starter and got the bike started after around 20 seconds having my finger on it.
I set the idle at approx 2000rpm and left it to sit there it idled fine, I revved it and it revved fine bar the fact that there was a little bit of Black/grey smoke and it smelled rich not much smoke at all though and only on high rev at random occurances. I turned it off started it again (only took 3secs) and closed the choke it started okay it did feel like it could be missfiring somewhere but I'm not sure as I'm not 100% mechanical.

I don't want to ride it just incase I cause more problems. the mechanic said he got it started but when he tried to get it going it just had no power which sounds like the problem I had when i first bought it. (Not wanting to drive at low revs and just stalling).
Anyway after all that any tips, suggestions .... anyone had this problem before?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... sunited at: 5/27/05 12:41 am

if it has low compression, it needs to come apart. 250's are little tiny motors an dthey live a hard life. High revs and very little maintenance...
I think it needs to be rebuilt
That would include, pistons and rings and valves ground or replaced and guide seals
Go through the carbs too, but the basic problem of low compression will only be cured by taking it apart and rebuilding it
Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
