Recently my upshifts from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd have been catching the gear at the end of the upshift. Transmission shifts smoothly. Feels like the clutch release cylinder (1994 FZR1000 hydraulic clutch) may be getting mushy/weak. Upshifts from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th are fine. Shifting from neutral to 1st is OK too. Downshifts are smooth and no catching in any gear. Upshifts from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd also smooth with no catching if I preload the shifter. Everything is normal with bike in gear and clutch pulled in. Clutch lever pressure feels a little weak/mushy. Master cylinder is full. I have not opened the system since the fluid was replaced about 2 years ago. I may bleed the system anyway to see if air is the culprit.
So, anyone experience these symptoms prior to the failure of the clutch, master cylinder, or clutch release cylinder ... or is it just an air bubble in the system ?

Had the same problem with the '88 and it was the slave cylinder! Seals were leaking slowly. Noticed that it was a hard shift from time to time. Finally found out when I started to clean the bike and seen fluid on the down tubes!
Woot, I had a FZR1K.................now I got a '02 R1, but still lookin for the right EXUP......
