I picked up PowerPak for the YZF750. It's marked 93-94 and my bike is a '97. It doesn't work--no spark and fuel filter not coming on with ignition.

On close examination I see my bike and stock CDI has a 6th pin on the smaller grey connectors where the PowerPak only has five. On my bike the sixth wire is white. In the Haynes manual this wire shows up in the '96 on models and connects to a 2nd and 3rd gear sensor not present in earlier U.S. models.

Then on the larger plug the wire layout is different. Both the PP and bike have 11 wires coming into the 13 slot connector, with two pins null. Yet the null pins are different on my connector and the PowerPak! Since the PP wires' color coding doesn't match the bike I don't know how the wires colors are lined up 93-94 connector!

So, can anyone with a 96 on PP:

--Interested in a trade for a 93-94 model? (That later model PP you though was dead may not be--just the wrong model year).

--Can tell me where that white wire connects to inside the PP? (There are some unused connections labled "IO5" and "IN9" inside that I suspect where there for future use or for the European models that seems to have gotten the gear indicator earlier and had a TPS.

--Or if you have a 93-94 US model, can you tell me the layout of the wires on your white connector?

I'd really like to use this but if that's not possible it will go into the classified then on eBay.

... What's the PowerPack?

I've always been curious as to what a PP brings to the table, performance wise. Has anyone ever put thier bike on a dyno for a base line then plugged in a power pack and then did some runs with the different settings and seen if there is any actual performance advantage?
I did this with my OW01 with a stock CDI and a race kit CDI and noticed a big difference, 7 hp up top with 500rpm more rev, but the low and mid range took a hit. I've seen the ads for the PP but no concrete evidence to back them up, and like the kit parts they are meant to go in a bike as a set, where as the PP is a stand alone item.

Barraba, A PP replaces your CDI (black box) it has some preprogramed settings to alter your ignition performance. Vance and Hines sold them back in the day.

It's only for the american models?

Thanks for checking Hooligan--no rush though.

I can't speak about how much or the credibility of the claims on performance gains, but I've seen more than a few racebikes fitted with them so there is something to the HP claims. Vance and Hines is still selling them, now called Power Commanders, that allow you to program maps with your laptop (On the older Power Pak, when you open the case you see a programmable EPROM marked the the bike make and model). If nothing elese, the PP allows you to adjust the rev limit in 500 rpm increments, and should have timing adjustments and maps to accomodate bikes running without the Exup.

P.S. Barraba--I'll keep you posted on potential sale, but you should check compatibility with European models. A couple sold on eBay last Fall. I quit bidding on one when the price got around $150, though I don't recal the final sale price.
