Pushing out anti-freeze! Any other Suggestions? Not the CAP
Pushing out anti-freeze! Any other Suggestions? Not the CAP
Came back from a ride last night and noticed a trail of liquid leading in the driveway and into the garage. Seems the bike pushed out enough Anti-Freeze into the catch tank to overflow out the tube into the path of my rear tire. Good thing I was driving like a pussy on the way home. It wasn't over full to begin with. The bike never got anywhere near hot and I wasn't beating on it hard. Anyway topped up the rad this morning and went back out for a ride about 20 miles. Level in the catch can stayed the same. I was assuming head gasket trouble but normally that would suck it in the cylinders and the bike would smoke or at least run like shit.
Any suggestions.

Radiator Cap
weiner127,
When my bike pushed coolant into the catch tank, and overflowed out the tube, it turned out to be a faulty radiator cap. Old radiator cap was not holding the required pressure and allowed the coolant to escape.
Radiator cap pressure ratings:
FZR600, 1989 - 10 to 14 psi
FZR600, 1990 on - 13.5 to 18 psi
FZR750/1000, 1987-1988 - 11 to 15 psi
FZR750/1000, 1989 on - 13.5 to 18 psi

WEINER. REC. LOOK FOR SNAIL TRAIL, COULD BE JUST HOSE CLAMP. LEAKING HOSE ,OR CRACKED NIPPLE AT RECOVERY BOTTLE OR LEAK AT COOLANT LINE ORINGS AT BACK OF CLYS. / RADIAOR FITTINGS. HEAD GASKET LEAKS RARE AND USUALLY INDICATED BY LEAKING THRU HOLES PAST 1 &4 SPARK PLUG AREA VIA DRAIN HOLES IN BLOCK . MORE COMMON WOULD BE WATER PUMP MECHANICAL SEAL WHICH WOULD EXHIBIT LEAKAGE THRU THE L/H COVER YOU CAN'T SEE FOR SHIT WITH THE C/S COVER ON. BUT HAS A DRAINAGE HOLE IN VANE COVER TO EVIDENCE FAILURE. PERSONALLY. WOULD LOOK FOR LEAKS THEN IF APPLICIBLE REPACE RAD CAP IF UNABLE TO TEST POP-OFF. ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMPLAINTS i KNOW OF ABOUT GENISIS (5 VALVE YAMAHA MOTORS ) IS TEMP DISAPATION ESPECIALLY AFTR BEING WORHED HARD THEN SUBJCTEDS TO LOW FLOW / CONJESED FREEWAY

Well guys I'd have bet the farm that it was the cap after reading your replies. I put a new 1.1 (16psi) cap on, topped up the coolant and headed out, constantly stopping and looking for coolant and after 50 or so miles, bang, pouring out like a tap, so nursing it home from there I get home and it's not doing it anymore. I'll have to wait till it cools to see just how much it puked. the bike never got even slightly warm on the guage.
Anymore ideas/suggestions/Help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Two things to think about. Head bolt retorque time???
and lean it to the left and let it idle while burping the hoses...you may have a bit of air
