Hey Nbot,
Could you post a pic or two of the cockpit so I can get an idea of what the bars look like? I am seriously looking into a set. Crash Bobbins

Post by djalbin »

Nbot,
I checked GSG moko's website and they listed the crash bobbins (frame sliders) for the FZR1000 with a notation that LHS/RHS fairing modification is required. What mods did you have to make for installation ?
Don

Quote:
Just finished installing the frame sliders...looks good, but don't trust the german instructions (I think that they were for '92 or something, not '94/5). To install simply remove lower side fairings, then the engine bolt (one side at a time) and drill a hole thru the black plastic shield against the frame. Then completely install the slider and THEN put the side fairing back on. Now you will see that the hole that you need to cut is not the same as the directions but instead a small half-moon by one of the air vents. I actually used a dremel with a round "cutting" disc to do most of it and then a sanding bit to get it round (careful not to let your hand/dremel slip ). I guess next your supposed to find some black rubber automotive/bodywork hose to put around the cut for a professional look.

This is from his other post on the topic in another thread. Although not detailed, it gives a good idea as to what needs to be done.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers

Hey! I thought I WAS being detailed...yeah fairly simple modification--or a bodyshop can cut the 1/2 moon hole for you but I thought with the dremel was quite easy to cut into the (soft) fairing...I wasn't too exact with the hole, just installed the sliders, mounted the fairing up over the sliders with a couple bolts and marked 1/2 inch round clearance and cut/sanded 'em smooth with dremel.

And Tim I'd be happy to take some pics this weekend 'n post...however I didn't install 'em, the prev. owner did, so I don't know. I'm 6'2" and 165lbs. and with the heli's find cruising at speed very comfortalbe...but I suppose I don't really know the pre/post difference...could be that the fizzer was already comfortable? My back doesn't ache much and my wrists never ached before either.

--Nathan

Hey Tim...sorry it took so long...I'm fixing a cracked oil pan on my car, a broken kick starter on an old Honda XL350R that broke on the day I was going to try 'n sell it, and a messed up carbuerator on my '91 Suzuki DR350S (not to mention pay the bills and get some rides in)...none the less here'z the pics

The guy who I bought the bike from said it's about 2" up and an 1.5" back toward the rider...up seems obvious, but I don't know if it really sets it that far back...oh, and I can't seem to find any brand name/make on the thing anywhere??

<img src="http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v23 ... Nice, I didn't notice until now that they use the stock clamps. Just the bar is replaced. I think $155 is a little steep for just bars with an off-set and no clamp, but will still contemplate the purchase. Thank you for the pics Nathan.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... <img src="http://www.helibars.com/pics/stockyamah ...

Although this is a small, poor quality pic, you can see the off-set where the bar bolts into the stock clamp. I cannot see paying $155 for bars. If the clamp came with it, maybe. You can get semi-stock replacement bars in carbon fiber for like $50. I'm going to have to see what my brother-in-law can do for me.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers

well from what the previous owner told me last night no other options were available for the fizzer (or at least that's what the shop said). He said he put them on b/c on long trips his neck killed him and wrists hurtin too. Apparently the bars are out of billet? which is stronger (but I'm no expert to say the least) And sorry for the misleading photos...being green myself I thought the clamp was replaced too...nope just the bars...hah hah hah

Nathan, use a heat gun or a high wattage hair dryer to remove that sticker on the tank.

Now, when using heavy equipment such as a hair dryer, certain safety precautions should be observed. Never attempt to remove the stickers with the hair dryer while doing any of the following: Riding, sleeping, bathing, passing a kidney stone, swimming, rock climbing, and so forth. I think you get the idea. Doing so could result in serious injury or death. (Hey, they don't put warning labels on stuff for the fun of it. Well......maybe they do.)

Turn on hair dryer.
Plug in hair dryer.
Unplug hair dryer because you left it on sitting on oily rags.
Turn off hair dryer and plug back in.
Turn the hair dryer back on and apply heat directly to the stickers that you want to remove.
Do not apply heat to stickers that you would like to keep.
10-30 seconds of heat from approximately 1-2 inches away should be a good start.
Peel sticker.
Repeat last 3 steps as needed.
Rinse.
(oops, sorry, you took all of yours off already)
Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
