The 6hr was run by James Spence who ran the successful ECRR series for 2 yrs before Terry O'Neill stiffed him.
They had a Pre Modern class only which was anything before Dec 96 I think, there was no distinction between them and New Era like PCRA or Hartwell etc
As I think we are going to struggle to get p6 on the map at big events like the Island Classic or SBK support, at least for a few years, this might be the highest profile meet we can try and get a separate P6 support race exposure. I've also asked PCRA to at the very least run a P6 feature race at next years Barry Sheene. I might talk to James Spence about a P6 feature race at PI...

I rate them as a pretty good bike but I don't have your talent so I couldn't worry 916s with one. (BTW I know Paul Cane and he is no slouchI have a VFR750 for sale......

No, no, no! No more Yamahas...unless...maybe..I know of an OW01 coming up

I think James will run it the same as last years 6 Hour. As far as the supports go. NE1 PM P5 & pretty much anything else from the era's
Some pics here, with a good veriety of bikes. It was NE1 & PM that were the front runners, but the other made up the numbers & the history. It will be a great weekend!!

Mike thanks you're too kind and I'm unduly modest, I certainly don't feel that talented when I'm out there! I think Broadford limits the VFR's disadvantage and limits quicker bikes' advantage if you know what I mean - at bigger tracks like EC the lack of straight line speed starts to really show and I have to work extra hard everywhere else. It tends to build speed rather than really accelerate hard.
Talking of Yamaha's I think we're seeing FZR 1000's as the emerging club rider's New Era tool of choice, one took out New Era at the Barry Sheene, one's been the front running bike on average over the past 3-4 yrs at PCRA, Kiwi has his and so on. I'm supposed to pick mine up on Sat, finally, so it's time to get it finished. I'm expecting big things with it, but I'm also being wary that it might not give me the spurt in lap times I want it to - I'll either gel with it or not I guess (I also think once I've tasted that power, I just won't be able to go back the VFR)

Look forward to hearing about the progress. I'll probably be going out to see the guy I got the Ohlins from soon. Give me a shout if you are after any more parts. He did have a complete 88 or 89 at one stage so he probably still has some stuff lying around.I'm supposed to pick mine up on Sat, finally, so it's time to get it finished

Mike thanks - I guess if there are any race / performance bits then I'd be interested.
I should also say that Paul Cane was taking it a bit easy at Broadford as he had to leave the bike in Vic for the BEARS round later in Sth Aust. He made some interesting comparisions about his 916 to the CBR600 he'd been racing - basically he didn't feel like he could ride the twin anywhere near the level of confidence he had on the CBR, so that was affecting him too. I think he'd changed tyre brands too and was suddenly falling off a lot more so that was holding him back too a bit I imagine. I'm pretty curious about the 916's having never ridden one, I get the feeling I'd either fall madly in love with them or loathe them, nothing in-between. Pre Modern down here is 10yrs + I'm tempted to get an SP1....

The next round of the BEARS is up here next month and it is a combined BEARS/Historic meeting and they are also running pre-modern so I can go out and have a run around. woohoo
I was sharing a pit with Paul last year and he bought new tyres at the track (different brand) and promptly stuck it in into the wall coming on to to the straight.!
I have had a 916 road bike and currently have a 748 SPS roadie. I took the 748 out for a run around at a BEARs track day and came away thinking I prefer to ride the YZF at the track. That was probably due to a bad set up and not wanting to scratch it more than anything. One of the faster pre modern guys up here runs a 916 and does well on it. He did a 1:45 at EC last week and a lot of 1:46s.

Let me know when; I may also tag alongJasonL wrote:Spook,
Since next Vic RR at PI is end May and the plan is to run the FZR there, I'll plan on doing a shakedown trackday at Broadford at least a fortnight before, so how about you get one of your bikes ready aswell, just to get a run? TL, Red Bull, anything! Let's go.

After all its one of the fastest growing classes in the country, & without doubt the largest grids, so know one is intrested I suppose.
I bet if you stick Gardiner or Beattie on a NE1 or PM bike things would be different.

Jason... you have to remember that the blue hatted tosser is a Historic road-racing patriarch. Goodness it wasn't that long ago that some kids in the 125 class referred to him as an old fart on one of the forums, and he punished them by having the GP125's excluded from the international program at PI... Speaking of old farts... was it the Supers or the GP?? The memory is fading.
Anyway... He's one of them.......... And a bully.
