What a start to the season!!!!

Caparossi wins, Pedrosa second (WOW), Hayden third!!!.

Rossi crashes in the first turn? Oops... Sete out to mechanical yet again...

Some of the after race interviews were intersting yet funny too... Edwards for one. Rossi's was good, Sete is still whining.

+1 and it's about time, been a long winter.

Great race. Pedrosa is looking good, his stamina should build as he adjusts to tossing that bigger bike around. Stoner and Vermeulen also had respectable rookie finishes.

Rossi showed his true class in the interview. He's got his work cut out for him but I think he can still pull it out for the season. If he has a little more bad luck I think Hayden and Capirossi will be the ones to beat.

Can't wait for Qatar!

Oh yeah - Sete could win every race for the next 5 years and I'll still think he's a suck-a$$ whiner.

The winner (Ducati's Loris Capirossi earned the pole, race win, and fastest lap.)

Dani Pedrosa leads teammate Nicky Hayden for 2nd and 3rd place.

Yamaha's Valentino Rossi crashed in the first turn.

If Pedrosa looks that good on his first race since being bump from teh 250 you know he's going to be a contender all year. He's use to winning and knows how. (Hayden must be squirming.)

Too bad Rossi was hit--I would have like to seen him running up front.

hahahahahahahaha, sulking i'll bet.

i would keep an eye on the two japanese riders, nakano and tamada. both can ride very quickly when the bugs are ironed out, and nakano has been saying that he is very happy with the new kwack.

darryl beattie won his first race to back in the day...then vanished

Not saying pedrosa will do the same...and I am in fact really surprised at his finish - but lets meet again midway thru the season to see where is he

The good 'ol boys of seasons past will not allow that to happen too often...

what the frack....rossi crashes....he must have popped a gasket on getting sent to the tarmac

Pedrosa's 2nd in the standings, took 2nd at Laguna, a track new to him, and he's probably learning more and more with each race.

He's a contender.

if the rest of the field was 80lbs then they would be contending to for 2nd place

my point is....he's a mouse driving a 1970 Chevelle with a 454

its gonna go fast no matter what....but REALLY fast when there is no weight to the driver

pedrosa is simply the weight of a child...yep I will admit he can drive a bike...but this is like a horse jocket or something

Hi All,
I'm happy Hayden won. He did well, and in the end proved many doubters wrong.
Good on him.

Being a bit of a cynic though, it seemed strange that Rossi got a duff front tyre a couple of rounds
before the end of the championship. I watched the last round and could not help thinking,
" Is that another duff front tyre Rossi's got.."
I wonder how much Honda would of paid to make that happen...Obviously they didn't, but,
how much do you think they would of paid....

Asked to comment on Internet denizens who now claim that Hayden somehow did not deserve to win or lucked into winning the 2002 AMA Superbike Championship and/or the 2006 MotoGP World Championship, six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin told roadracingworld.com the following:

Regarding Hayden's 2006 MotoGP World Championship:

"It doesn’t matter how he did it, he did it. That’s pretty much how it is. I’ve heard it all before as AMA Superbike Champion. It doesn’t matter in the slightest how you did it, just that he’s done it. He has that big Number One on his bike next year and that’s what matters. Anybody who says he doesn’t deserve it is full of sh-t.

"He’s worked for it his whole life. He put a good solid year together and won the Championship and now he can build on that."
