NHIS Track Day 09/20/06

Post by jjs777 »

It's been nearly 12 years since I kissed the pavement while riding a FZR1000 - 12 years on any bike matter of fact.

Rider DOWN! ~me~

I did my track day at new hamshire speedway in loudon and it was a gorgeous sunny day. Track had been washed by rain - but there were still plenty of signs of oil spills and speedi dry from the nascar events whatever where they use our turn ins as their blown motor escapes. Get where I'm going with this ?

Heres my 90fzr1000 - previously near mint condition now with right side fairing damage, and rear brake lever a little wavy.

It was a low speed crash - prolly 20-30 mph turn 3 - I wasnt into my turn all the way...I was on the front brakes (no rear brakes applied) and down I went. Very upset with myself....there was really no reason for this but I didnt think I was pushing the limit whatsoever....I have braked harder I felt in the past...but this track was still a little green.

I picked the bike up and missed no sessions....except one at the end.

Luckily I damaged a old end can I had placed on it prior to going to the track - I didnt want anything weird happening to my upswept blue flame so I was using my old V&H supersport no baffle. No loss there. Really lucky I guess with little damage except to my idea of having one of the nicer lookin 90 bikes still intact.

ahhhhh well !!!

I still cant believe I toasted my mint 90. I guess it was nice that it wasnt my 95 bike.

One thing I did notice...although I did set my tire pressure after the first warm up session....after I got back post crash I checked my front tyre it was 34psi.....that certainly didnt help. I dropped it again to 31lbs for the remainder of the day.

Oh yeah...and i damaged my new rossi helmet. Not too bad really...but enough to say....crap!

When the red flag came out and I didn't see you come back into the pits I got a bit nervous. Then after a bit, you came in riding the bike so I was like it wasn't too bad. Went over and took a look and saw that you were OK and the bike was mostly plastic damage. If you keep doing track days you may have to get the wife to allow for a dedicated track tool.

As you know Tracy and I were both riding the F4i. but now that I think about it that may be what was keeping my pace down a bit. Knowing in the back of my mind that if I went down agian it could keep us both from riding the rest of the day depending on the damage. Have to get another track tool so that we can both play and have fun....
