YZF750 Version 3

Well almost three months on since my last bingle and I finsihed Version 3 of the racer today. It took most of my spares plus a few new bits to get it together again so I had better look after this version :)

I went a bit fancy with the paint scheme this time. Not unhappy with the result and the the picture doesn't show up too much of the bodgy repair work to the glass.

Off to Queensland Raceway for a track day on Wednesday to see if it holds together. :) [/img]

Bloody hell you do a nice job at preping your race bike!!
Now which part of it is my old YZF??
I can see the swingarm & a few other bit.
Good luck this time.
Remeber less lean angle, more body hanging off = faster corner speed + less likelyhood of running off the side of the tyres.
Hope the day turns out apples & you have a great time.

Now which part of it is my old YZF??
Swingarm, frame, tank, handlebars, front guard,fork outers,..probably other stuff I can't remember.

The bodywork is pretty rough up close but when you consider I started with this the result is not too bad :)

That bodywork doesnt look that bad, most of it would buff out :roll:

Only a maybe for this. I'm basically starting again.

Step 1 - go to track, ride around, come home with bike in one piece and no injuries.

Step 2 - repeat step 1, etc :)

Have a good day out Mike. I've been working on your Step 1 and 2 also... So far so good :) The bike looks great, the only thing I would change is the damper mounted on the side of the frame (could make a mess if Step #3 comes into play) Is it possible to mount it across or in front of the tripples? Cheers.

Yeah I agree. It's even worse because I took the frame sliders off so the first thing to hit the ground will be the end of the damper rod! I have a small one off my 748 that I might try and fit up one day.

Went to the track today and didn't fall off :) :)

Day started with generator problems which I tried to fix but ended up breaking the float bowl O ring so no generator and therefore no tyre warmers. I then managed to lock my keys in my car along with all of my riding gear! Managed to break in in time to not miss the first session. :)

It was my first time at this track so I was put in the slow group which was fine by me as the idea today was to have a bit of a shakedown for the bike and me. About 3 laps in I lost my left footpeg which was inconvenient. I did a couple of more sessions and sort of came to terms with the footpeg problem but the bike then developed an overheating problem so I packed it all up at lunchtime and called it a day. Not unhappy with the day overall. I have been struggling with a headcold for a few days so going home early was not a big deal because I was not exactly feeling on top of things anyway. :)

I was nervous going to the track wondering whether I would be tempted
to go too hard and crash, or if some random thing would make me crash.
It feels good when you realise the last session has just finished and
you didn't fall off, eh!

I just want to say these couple of things Mike. Don't let a couple of crashes rattle you, seriously. In some ways it is the only way you will find your limitations, and those of the bike. I'm not saying it (crashing) is something you should seek, but it is an inevitable consequence of learning that which will work, and that which will not. I only know of you what I have seen in your photo's, there is no doubt you are capable and motivated to do well.

However, it is also okay to be patient... The speed will come to you once other things such as set-up and probably more importantly confidence are in place. I'm no expert, but I'm an aggressive competitor, and at times my own worse enemy. Though, must say rules 1&2 are serving me well at the moment:)

Track time is the only thing that really facilitates improvement... Just my 3c.

Cheers guys. One thing I did learn (teach myself?) today is that just because you are on a race bike (sort of :) ) you don't have to give in to the red mist. Sounds easy but I think you understand what I mean.

There were no lap timers today which I think was a good thing for me. Knowing when to go home was also something I learnt. I got offered an R1 for the rest of the day after my bike problems but I passed on the offer and quit while I was ahead.

It's all good and I will be back out sometime next month. :)

(I've got a 3 day road ride coming up in a couple of weeks which will be good for getting some time in the saddle and some condition in the shoulder :) )
