Rear Lights

Post by Nbot »

Well, so you may or not remember, but my rear lights just stay on permanent 'brake' light, not normal tail light and also brake light (always with both filaments lit on the 1057's). Now, I know that you said to adjust the brake sensor on the rear brake pedal....however, that doesn't make sense given the situation......

I had started the bike up at work, it was cold, so I had the choke open...got delayed actually leaving work, so by the time I got back to the bike it was revving very high, AND both headlights were blown out and the brake lights were full on, not just taillights.....it seems that the high revs or something blew something? maybe a relay got blown/overloaded?

I've done the direct line to the headlights with an inline fuse mod for brighter headlights, so I'm not sure if this might be affecting the situation? No fuses are blown....not sure how to check relays....doesn't make sense it being the rear brake pedal light switch.......any ideas? I don't think its time to ride the bike over a cliff yet actually , I just got all the fairings back from the paint shop yesterday just black again.....
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
This is your sig on drugs....

Rear Lights

Post by RiceRocket1 »

Have you tried to unplug front and rear switch for the brake lights and see if the problem clears?

If you find that it is the rear switch, I suggest replacing it with a pressure type switch, basically all you would end up doing is replacing the banjo bolt with the one that has the pressure switch. It will give you more flexability in adjusting the brake pedal. When I had the standard switch on the FZR I couldn't get the brake lever low enough for my liking. If I adjusted it too low the light would come on but there wasn't enough adjustment in the switch to compensate. Now with the hydrolic pressure switch I can put the lever where I like and not have to do any thing to the switch...
Jim

95 FZR1000

<img src="http://www.danasoft.com/sig/rice-rocket ...

Nbot,
I had problems with the rear brake light being "on" all the time. I tried adjusting the rear brake switch but it didn't seem to make a difference (adjusted it full range min/max without any improvement). Then I rolled up the rubber cap that covers the brake switch plunger. The wires inside had unraveled some and were touching so that it was keeping a closed circuit. I wrapped the wires with electrical tape to isolate them from making contact with each other. I was then able to adjust the brake lever and switch to the correct position and have not had a problem since.
Don

Jim...thanks, I unplugged the rear wire, and problem solved....the normal taillights now work, and the brake lights come on with the front brake, which is fine with me since I mostly use that anyways......I might just leave it unplugged for a while

Don....nice tip....I'll look into that first thing next time I get around to fiddling...for now I'm just happy that it works...the wedding is next week, so basic functionality will do for now
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
This is your sig on drugs....
