I'm back those of you that remember me...

Post by ColinM »

Well after a long hiatus i'm back. I'll be honest the reason I was gone is...well, i bought a wrecked Ducati 748 at the beginning of the summer and went to town on that. 890 big bore kit race pipes all that good stuff...then last night someone decided to turn left in front of me. Suffice it to say i'm pretty sure my Italian baby is a complete goner. So now I can work on my FZR1000 streetfighter project again that I put on hold...and the FZ750 project...and the Ducati project again assuming it's not a complete loss...hmmm maybe I can get that Duc motor into an FZ750 or FZR frame lol. Anyways no major injuries for me, and I hope no one hates me for abandoning the board for my Italian beauty... Pics of the wrecked bike when I got it, when I fixed it, then when it was wrecked again soon...oh and the streetfighter project that will be done soon I hope!

A friend of mine did that to his 748. Put that 890 big bore in it. Too bad he let that clown in Minneapoilis try to reprogram his ECU. This guy was supposed to be the "guru" of reprogramming Duc ECU's for big bore kits. Well teh guy hasnt got a clue what he was doing. His is one of the few ducs I seen with over 20,000 miles though. Most ducs (the supersport ones) here dont get more than 500 miles a year put on them.
Rob

Yeah mine only had 56 miles on it, bought it from a dealership in Utah, someone wrecked it on a test ride supposedly, it checks out as far as the title goes i'm technically the first owner. I guess they just had it sitting in storage for a few years and had long since written it off. Very dusty when I got it so I rebuilt the motor from the bottom up. Mechanically it is still 100% but i'm having the frame and forks checked next week to see if those are bent. The other persons insurance company is covering everything, so we'll see how things go.
My Bikes:

1978 BMW R100/7
1985? No worries, Colin. With the slowdown the old board was having over the past few months you only missed 5 posts :poke

So what do you still have sitting around in the garage?

Lol, yeah the Norton was a fairly recent acquisition. 7K original miles! Was very dusty, but some new tires, brake lines and whatnot and she kicks right over...the electric start works about half the time, but it's more fun to kick it over lol. Well the only bikes I have left are in my sig, plus a 76 Honda CB750K cafe racer project, and of course the FZR streetfighter project. As for cars all I have now is my 78 right hand drive RX-7 and the 2008 Mini Cooper S I got less than 2 months ago, ordered it to spec. I got sick of having a car I was putting 2 or 300 into a month and figured a car payment would be better. I got it in British Racing Green with white stripes of course!

So my main focus is getting the FZR done for this riding season, but i'm in no rush as those of you that know how long it's been going probably realize. The CB750 is more of a project for next winter I think. Now I just have to finish clearing out all the leftover parts from my various finished or long gone projects lol. Ducati parts, honda parts, yahama FZ parts...you name it...and some stuff that I don't even remember what I had them for. Somehow I ended up with the bottom end from what I think is a Yamaha R5 lol. Anyways, it's good to be back and working on just 2 projects instead of having a million going at once.
