These would be pretty straight forward questions if I had a service manual but the dealer doesn't know how to order one(they've ordered me an all french one and an owners manual so far). Anyways is there a way to measure cam chain tension and is there a tensioner on board(manual or automatic); also I have to re-ring and hone the cylinders(burning too much oil) do I have to replace the headbolts? Thanks in advance for any given advice as I would like to have everything here before I start so I can minimize downtime

Bandit...you might want to check into the new cd's that Yamaha has (may not cover your bike yet). The disc includes the owners & service manual, plus a built in parts fiche. Sorry I can't answer your questions...check Yamaha's site for more info on those cd's. aah... about the manual. Alfamer sold my Haynes book. I personally would not give my enginework to an dealer that dont know where to get an servicebook<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> about other things... yes there is an way to measure camchain, but its not for tension, it´s usually measured for wear. can be measured from pin - to - pin, but i cant remember what it should be. my mech says that a camchain should last for 80th kilometers and i trust him in that. if you suspect that it could be getting old, i strongly suggest you change it as it costs only about 100$ and youll have a peace of mind in that. then the re-ring and hone thing... you will not know if you can just re-ring your engine until youve opened it and measured piston to cylinder clearances. yamaha states maximum clearance to be 0,08mm and just for the record my clearance was 0,65mm when i opened it. there was nothing actually broken or wrong, exept the HUGE clearance. oil buring about 1,5-2litre/1000km. minimum clearance should be 0,051 for wiseco pistons. cant say what min is for oem yamaha. as for the tensioner??... yes of course there is an tensioner inside your engine? its an standard, oil-pressure controlled camchain tensioner and if its worn, it can cause slack in the chain and a rattling noice. it too can be changed to either the oem one, or an APE or similar manual camchain tensioner.... a bit pricey for an simple bit, going around 100$. is your engine rattling? it can also be the pistons that´s causing a noise quite like the camchain noise. my engine rattled just like it had a worn camchain but after measuring it and the tensioner there was nothing wrong with them, so i put the old ones back, and the noice is gone. hope this helps some Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... cterror</A> at: 6/25/04 1:06 am

You have to sign in to be able to edit. Your work computer is probably set up not to accept cookies. You may be able to change this if your companies security policy permits. If you are using Internet Explorer you will find the relevant settings from the tools menu - tools\internet options\privacy. Hope this helps, H
