F5 Now I know why you don't need a fan- there's always enough wind to cool it even when your stationary

I bought my FZR in Auckland. When I was waiting for the ferry in Wellington it was soooooo windy I had to stay seated on the bike or it would have blown over, and I had to put my helmet on the ground behind the bike or it would have rolled away.......Mind you, I've ridden around one corner down here in Canterbury LEANING THE WRONG WAY to correct for the wind. Plus twice I've ridden from the Lewis Pass towards Hanmer at 120k + with no wind noise- the tail wind was pretty much keeping up! Quite surreal......

fixed!
At last I`ve fixed the problem....
After changing the rad cap, ditching the thermostat, flushing the radiator & checking the water-pump, I had pretty much given up on ever getting this sorted! One of my friends is an excellent mechanic and he had a look at it for me. After 5mins he had found the problem- the neck of the radiator, where the cap seals, was slightly corroded. This was preventing the cap from holding pressure! 2mins with a bit of scotch-brite cleaning it up was all it took. Now the fan cuts in, the temp drops & the fan cuts out again.
Many hours of fun can now be had posing down my local high street etc!!!
It was such an obvious fault but it took a different view to find it!

Re: fzrnut
Kiwis are also an innovative species. John Britton's V1000 was teeming with fresh ideas that challenged the established paradigm of motorcycle design and was a world beater to boot.

Fan switch wiring
Nbot,
From the schematic (94 US model) it looks like a purple wire from the fan motor goes to a connector where a purple wire goes to the thermo switch. On the other side of the switch a purple wire goes to a connector where a brown/red wire goes to the fan fuse.
Don
