I have some fond memories of the first time I saw a V-Max in action. I was riding a Honda 450 which was pretty sweet little ride actually. I think it was mid-'86 and I had pulled into a 7-Eleven for a late night coffee. This rider walked out of the store while I was taking my helmet off and he fired up this V-Max up at the other end of the lot. He wasted no time in pulling out onto the street, coming to a complete stop and then launching it. I use the word "launch" quite specifically. To this day it reminds me of that "warp" effect used on Start Trek:The Next Generaton where the ship elongates as it accelerates past light speed instantly. I mean lights blurring, the whole bit. I was completely speechless as I had never seen anything so fast on the street. Even my friends worked up KZ1000 couldn't hope to keep up with that beast. And the sound was incredible.

All that said, I sure wish they would have made a V-4 sport-tourer like Honda's Interceptor. If Honda can do it, Yamaha can do it better.

I was scared that Yamaha was going to make the Warrior their new top dog, then I was afraid they would do a half ass job on the Vmax, then I shut my mouth. I like it. Does anyone remember that "Motorcyclist" had policy that if you were caught doing a burnout on the Vmax that you were fired?

Hey Kid...
Is my tail light still working?

I first saw one two years ago. Apparently the first lot of bikes was pretty gnarly. What I had heard was that the first test riders basically said it was just 'too much!'. Apparently it had ~210 hp or so (!).

At least back then, the bike looked pretty cool.....
