fuel flow

Post by dantheman »

hi everyone , ive got an 89 thou non starter . the fuel pump packed in because the air vent on the tank cap was blocked so ive stripped and cleaned the cap vent and replaced the fuel pump but , the damn thing wont start . theres a full tank of gas but the fuels not passing the filter . when i switch the ignition on the pump charges as normal but the fuel doesnt flow, i,m absolutely certain its something to do with the reserve switch , anyone any ideas ???

By pass the reserve setting by leaving the connection off on the tank and disconnecting the reserve switch.

This puts the settings to a default of reserve.

disconnect the fuel line at the carbs and turn the bike on fuel should flow freely from the end of the pipe.

If your pump is cycling, but fuel is not getting through to your carbs, maybe the filter is blocked.

OR

You haven't turned on the FUEL TAP!!!!!!!

Fingers go tappity tap.....
Snerk
Snigger...
:poke

Not like I never done it M8...
Last time I got a half mile from the house when it died and I remembered I hadn't turned on the tap...
No tools though.
No Cell phone either...
A passerby thoughtfully offered the use of a long screwdriver to get me home.
Nice young chap.
Allways say please and thankyou...

Have you checked the tiny filter inside the fuel tap?
It is pathetic in size and can cause all sorts of problems especially if you try to run fuel injection
You will need to drain the tank and remove the whole fuel tap assembly to get to it but any amount of crap in the tank will block it very quickly.
