did i just acquire carillo rods?

Post by Hooligan »

for you guys with engine building experience, this question is for you. i just bought a box of parts and a set of what appear to be very nice set of rods. i did some surfing last night, the appear to be carillo h-beam rods. question is, how can i verify this? also, how can i figure out if they will work on my yzf750? are the 750 and 1000 rods interchangeable?

thanks guys!!

There was probably only one or two aftermarket suppliers for FZR rods anyway Hooligan - I would like to see a pic if possible?

Carillo's?

Post by ExupElvis »

http://www.carrilloind.com/app.html
I looked around the Carillo site a little bit Hooligan.
They sure do look like they are Carillo's.
There is an online PDF catalog linked from their page.
As far as I can tell those would be P/N YA-FZ1>54310S for the FRZR1000 EXUP. Rods for the 750 don't seem to be listed.
You might find some very light etching along the beam if they are marked with a #.
are the 750 and 1000 rods interchangeable?
I wouldn't think so really, it would take some time with a caliper and parts on the bench side by side to find out. I don't see rod center to center length published in the factory manual, but that will likely be the telling factor.

Nice score though, looks like the genuine article to me.

thanks guys! i did some checking on the carillo site as well elvis, only found the 1000 specs like you did. i am hoping that these will work in the 750 motor. hoping with fingers and toes crossed.

i have to have a knowledgeable builder inspect the rods before i do anything with them. i'm not sure what the friction surfaces of either end should look like. the general outward appearance looks good, no big gouges or scratches, chips, etc.

Glad to hear they held up from that drop on cement when you were negotiating the purchase. I would have insisted on at least $25 off of them for that fall!

yeah, thanks for reminding me konto. the drop must not have been high enough cause there wasn't a mark on 'em.

hopefully they'll work in the 750 motor, if not, they'll be for sale.

Sell them?!?

. . . I’m thinking; coffee table, . . . glass cover,. . . maybe a drawer so you can take them out & fondle them. . .
