Tommy, Roger Hayden To Appear On Discovery Channel's 'Speed On Two Wheels' Wednesday

From a press release issued by Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A.:

HAYDEN BROTHERS TO APPEAR ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL

IRVINE, Calif. – Reigning AMA Supersport Champion Tommy Hayden and series runner-up Roger Hayden are to appear on the Discovery Channel’s newest show, “Speed on Two Wheels,” scheduled to air Wednesday, April 19th. The Kawasaki Racing Team riders will be appearing alongside their crew as the show progresses through the many technical aspects of what it takes to be competitive in the AMA Superbike series.

Produced by Cry Havoc Productions, “Speed on Two Wheels” also takes the viewer into the world of the modern sportbike. Viewers will learn the artistry and engineering of these two-wheeled rocketships and what makes them tick. The program covers everything from how the average consumer can learn better riding skills to how top racers dial-in their finely tuned machines.

Depending on the cable provider the show is scheduled to air on either the Discovery Channel or the Discovery Science Channel. Be sure to check your local listings for time and channel.

Disc. Science here too, but I get that. I got the DVR setup to record it. I've never tried it yet, but I'll see if I can get it off there and captured to the PC so it can be posted online for those that don't get it. Might take a few days, I'll let ya know.

if you had tivo...rather than dvr then it would be simple

tivo - cat5 wire to switch
switch to pc
pc runs tivo application
allows you to drop movies on the pc AND playback movies from the pc server
all from tivo/tv command menu

All works amazingly well - and I have not found any bugs in the tivo pc server software that allows this to happen (for pc access) - the latest revision is VERY stable - prolly has been running on my server for over 75 days without a hiccup

never thought I would be on the tivo bandwagon - but I always thought this would be great technology - and here it is...and it works

now we just have to wait for fiber to the residential home - which is already available and being rolled out - prices extrememly competitive to broadband over cable/coax hybrids - and youll have your 2-3GB file within minutes

It's been a while since I looked into tivo, but at the time the DVR from my cable provider (Adelphia) was a better deal. I didn't have to pony up a couple hundred for the box - and the $7 / month for the box rental and service was cheaper than the $10 / monthly tivo service fee, not to mention it was just added to my existing (insane) cable bill - one less person to pay every month.

The process you describe is very easy for PC playback, which would be nice for me. Does it allow for the show to be saved to the PC in a distributable format (ie: mpg, Win Media, Quicktime, etc) or is it stuck in a proprietary format and only playable via the tivo software? The only way I can do it now is through a "to VCR" port that I can run through a PC capture card. I'm probably just going to buy a set-top DVD-R to plug into that since the price of those has come down considerably. I could then just put the DVD in the PC, rip, edit and distribute.

Fiber would be nice for it's speed, but for now, cable gives me enough to make everyone in the house happy (wife plus 3 girls). Plus I'm frugal (read "cheap") - I didn't even move to ethernet from token ring in house until the late 90's when "spare parts" from work became availible.

Back on topic: I'm really looking forward to watching this. The Hayden's are always good fun.

Dammit!!! Looks like it's only on the Science channel. Bad enough I don't even get Speed

Guess I can always watch American Chopper instead
