Carb questions
Hey gents,
I'm at work and won't get to rip into the bike til tonight but I want to make sure my thinking is straight before I begin.
1. I'm popping on decel through the pipe. So I've been told to turn my pilot airs out an eighth (by DRJim, quite a while back). I wasn't too concerned about it before, but I cleaned my air filter the other day and the popping seems worse (which would make sense with more air flow).
2. My riding buddy told me I'm putting out black puffs when I get on the gas. So I'm thinking my emulsion tubes are worn out and I should hop on the group buy while I can.
Does my line of thinking make sense? A bit too lean from the pilot airs on decel but rich everywhere else on accel? I've never heard of having both conditions simultaneously.
The bike makes great power all through the rev range, pulls well from idle, and idles smoothly.
I gotta pull the plugs tonight, but if I'm headed in the wrong direction I'd sure appreciate a slap.
Running a slip-on with K&N filter (stock airbox).

If you have more than about 15,000 miles then yes, I recommend replacing the EmulsionTubes. With that being said, I still have yet to do mine and I got them this time last year (I'm a slacker). I have the same issue with the black puff on hard acceleration.
I have since purchased a set of 95 carbs that I'm going to rebuild with the new tubes and one of the 3 (2 FactoryPro, and 1 DynoJet) jet kits that I have. The reason for doing it this way, is I will have one set that is known good to run the bike. Once I get the rebuilt set tuned properly, I can the rebuild the original set.
I seem to be like several other members on the board. Grabbing spares where I can for as little $ as possible, but sometimes it costs (like my trans).

So I get the feeling this is something I could blow off for quite a while? Not that I'm going to, but it's good to know. I should do the group buy. They are all the same tubes? 38mm Mikuni's all have the same ones?FZRDude wrote:If you have more than about 15,000 miles then yes, I recommend replacing the EmulsionTubes. As far as I know, they are all the same from 89-95. Yes, get in on the group buy, you will not find a better price.Blaine wrote:I should do the group buy. They are all the same tubes? 38mm Mikuni's all have the same ones?
Like totally tubular man...Blaine wrote:LOL, so Tim, does that mean you think I'm right, or that I need to catch some tasty waves?

The more I look at it, #24 looks to be the slide, so I doubt its that either. Well, you could disassemble your carbs and send the tube out to FactoryPro and say "Hey?!? Got one (4) of these? How much?"
.....but that would mean being without your ride for a couple of weeks.
Or call the Dealer and make them find out what the P/N and cost is.

Take a look at page 249 (Section 6, pp 8) in the YZF1000 manaul on the downloads page. I think it is referred to as the main jet holder.

Also look at the Haynes, YZF750/1000 Manual, Section 4 pp 18, picture 8.28, referred to here as needle jet.

But damn--still don't see it on the Yamaha parts list.
