Interesting Picture...

Post by WickedFZR1K »

Well, to those of you who do not know (which is probably 99.9% on the board), my other addiction/passion aside from motorcycles is Radio Control. Especially nitro powered stuff. I have flown Airplanes (still have a trainer and a glider), tried my hand at Helicopters, very hard to master and I am an avid 1/8th scale buggy race in the winter months. Anyways, a friend of mine sent me a picture of one of his past "WHOOPS" pictures...

To those of you who dont know, it is a SIG Kadet, nitro powered airplane. He kinda boofed the landing and the wind took over. The end result was Kadet meets Saguaro Cactus, I am sure the Cactus is the victor. To remove the plane, they had to prop a 15' (approximately) step ladder sitting in the bed of a pickup truck against the cactus to retrieve the plane...

Probably popped off since most r/c planes use rubber bands to hold the wing on.

REally wish I had kept my old F105 Thunderchief I built after moving to the US. But since the local flying field was overrun with assholes (range official wouldnt let any other aircraft in the air when a ducted fan aircraft, which I had the only one, was flying out of safety reasons), I really had problems finding places to fly it safely (some reason if the place looks deserted, the second you fire it up, kids come out of the woodwork. And you need ALOT of space to fly a DF that can do 150mph).

Yeah Rob, I know what you mean about kids, they always seem to appear when noisy R/C stuff is in use. The DF planes are truely amazing to see and I would love to fly one, but my skills arent that great (still on the trainer planes)...

I can sorta see where his safety theory comes from, I wouldnt want my plane to get hit by a DF plane, would feel terrible and wouldnt want to pay to replace my plane or the DF...

Yes, the main wing was held in place by rubber bands, which did in fact snap on impact (but thats what they are supposed to do to minimize damage)...
