Balancing stand

Post by silver »

Anyone make a decent balancing stand for less than $100 ? I'm watching one on Ebay.

Note that this one doesn't seem to have the cones that others use.

I may be wrong, but I think there was a link posted that showed how to make your own. Seem to remember it was a whole page on mounting/balancing your own tires. Can't find it at the moment though.

I have one of these:

I pick it up used but like new. Work great--140-150+ mph at the track with no problems. At the AMA races the Dunlop guys use similiar.

Great customer support too--they sent me a set of wider spacers for my BMW and replacement set stock spacers free--didn't even charge shipping.

I'm pushing to get to changing my own tires by my next round of replacements. I'm not up on legalese on the left coast but here in TN the average fee for a tire change runs like this :

Labor - $25 (best price)
Tire disposal $7
Tax - $3.25 (10%)

For a total of $35.25 to change out a $100 tire ! I don't think so ! :hissy

it runs 35 to 40 bucks a wheel here on the eastern seaboard as well. that's only if you bring the wheels already off the bike.

tack at least 100 bucks on the total if you plan on riding in/riding out.

ridiculous.

Powder coating ? If that's the case I'd love to see how they look. I was thinking of polishing a pair but I'd really like to go with a black powder coating if practical.

:hijack

But since this is your thread......

Yes, I'm having them powdercoated. How much? Don't know yet. It's never the price they first tell me, and rarely is it the second one either, which is lower. Problem is, they didn't tell me how much it was going to be other than it was going to cost me an extra $35 to have the front one painted white first. Then the color coat and lastly the clear.

I've been carrying around the sample color for a week now.....

Oh heck ! We're still talking wheels and such here ! How durable is powder coating going to be ? I've noticed several small marks on my rims from having my tires changed.

Supposed to be the biznotch, but I'm still a little skeptical.

I had the frame done and before I got to ride it, I have put a scratch in it and some how stained it.

With the color that I'm going with, they also had to apply a coat or 3 of clear which will help with durability.

I bought this item (150118388409) off of fleabay and just used a body shop horse to hold it up high. No need to squat down. Works really good! I got tired of paying Cycle Gear $30 a tire to mount and balance. The savings for the set of tires just went to them. Now I have the piece of mind that it is done right. Now I only have myself to blame if anything goes wrong! LOL..........
Woot, I had a FZR1K.................now I got a '02 R1, but still lookin for the right EXUP......
