first pass today..

Post by vinsanity69 »

Took my bike to Cecil County today and was quite happy with the times I had.
10.34@131mph/10.38@128mph/10.77@126mph and the first and worst was 11.68@119mph. Freakin red lighted in the third round :hissy
This was the first time out since dropping the thunderace crank and cams in this winter.
I am staying clear of the mickey thompson slick and going back to a street tire this week.Hopefully I will get my hands on a airshifter soon too.
I just might get her in the 9's yet.
Can anyone suggest a system that works best with the FZR or are they all just the same?I am leaning toward Pingels electric over air.

I don't know why one of the times is highlighted but it is not a link......

Gidday,

Sounds like you had a real good day - well done.

Check out MPS:

http://www.mpsracing.com/products/MPS/quickshift.asp

Just go into clutch & transmission and you'll find the air shifters.

I'm ordering a the quick shift for my road race bike for next season, but I haven't heard anything for or against MPS at this stage.

Holeshot also specialise in drag racing shifters and are worth checking out:

Cheers

MPS makes good stuff.
Most drag racers use an Air shifter as it is mechanical and with a LOT of power, there is a bias against electronic systems due to complexity.
Either will do nicely
Good job getting into the low 10's your first time out. What were your 60's like?

well i did my first passes on my 88 this weekend(sat) now keep in mind that this a $180 dollar e-bay motor, so she's no rocket. well the first one was a 11.58 best reaction of the day, but worst 60 ft.2.201, however by the end of her we ended up with a fastest of 10.84 with a 1.757 60 ft and went out the other end @126.75, this was somewhat backed up by a 10.91, and two 10.93s best 60ft of the day was a 1.747,10.93@126mph, and highlite of the day was an 11.19, wheelied all through 1st powershifted to second and she dropped then came back up, wheelied all through second and still had a 1.879 60 ft WHAT A RUSH :banana
08 zx10r/ 85 V-MAX. best e.t 9.36@148MPH on 08 ZX10 Stretched and 9.76@146 SWB.

The best pass of the day was .030 light/1.667 60'/6.65 eighth/8.64@1000/with the 10.34 finish@131mph.The worst 60' time was a 1.880
That is running with a 17/47 gearing which will change to 17/50 soon and see how that goes Wednesday night at Englishtown test&tune.
I changed the oil today after work and was meet by a bad sight.Water in the oil so I suspect the water pump seal is bad. This would explain why my times slipped over the course of the day.I have a routine at the track and I never saw a rise in the oil level and I did not have to add any water. Now I have a few questions.....

1)is there any other way for water to get in the engine beside the water pump seal?I know for sure the head gasket is good and There is no miss fire or misting out the exhaust or dripping anywhere. No white smoke either.
2)The four orange o-rings that go on the underside of the cylinders, what is their purpose?I was talking with a friend today about putting his motor in his fzr this weekend and this came up and we are both lost on this one.I know where they go but what do they do???
3)can you do away with small fiber plate in the center of the clutch and sub it with a regular size fiber?I am after strength, this plate shattered on me last year and lead to the crank going south.
Thanks for the comments,I am very proud of my old girl.Alot of people had no idea what I was riding.I love to keep 'em guessing...
