The good thing is that it rarely stays around long.

It weren't the snow I was worried about. Well not exactly. There was about a 1/4 inch of ice under all the snow ! I drove the SUV and was completely amazed at the number of accidents on I24. 8 accidents in a 10 mile stretch. And I didn't cause none of them this time !

We got some pretty serious snow last year. Had about 6 inches of ice on our hill. I live at the very end of a dead end road at the bottom of the hill. I was the only one what could get out. We got the ubber liberal across the street what just HATES my Blazer. She was askin for a ride to the store. Seems her Toyota Minivan couldn't quite get to the top of the hill....
Laughed my butt off. Then I gave her a ride...

We get a little snow 2~3 times per winter. Bitter cold though. A week of single digits is common. Unfortunately the ground here has little if any soil so the pipes aren't buried deep. As you can imagine there are a lot of breaks in the winter. Also most houses don't have basements so the pipes are often exposed to the winds as well.

Amateurs! You don't know snow. I grew up in Upstate NY. We call 6 inches a "dusting."

I was living in Buffalo for the Blizzard of '77. Before the storm even hit there was four feet of snow on the ground. The snow was so high that clearing the sidewalks meant piles shoulder high on each side--it was like walking in a tunnel.

Then the city got walloped by 3 feet of snow and five days of winds averaging 50 mph. Snow drifts of 15 feet were common on the city streets and with 3 feet of snow on the roads a fifth of the cars in the city were abandoned.

The snow was so much and already so high there was no place to plow it. The called out the national guard and brought in front loaders and dump trucks to haul the snow away and dump it in the Erie river.

In Buffalo alone 27 people died from the storm.

I would of never made it through the ordeal were it not for some good herb and my girlfriend making it over just as the storm started.

And I walked a mile to campus and back every day that winter, uphill, in my bare feet.
