BUGGER

Post by kiwi60 »

A few weeks ago my band had a practice up at a friends place one Thursday nite, and as we were going to have another practice on the following Monday I decided to leave my prize Lakland Bass, amps etc there to save the hassle of loading / unloading.

On the Saturday nite, Tom and his wife returned from a wedding at about 10.00pm to find 4 fire appliances putting a fire out that had been caused by a power point shorting out, and another appliance behind them in the driveway.

Basically I lost all my gear, along with the others in the band, and Tom & Vicki lost a lot more...but fortunatley the fire department managed to save their house nearby by constantly hosing it down over several hours.

I estimate the fire was around 1600 degrees as all the cymbols were melted and the brass bridge from my bass (which took several days to find) was just beginning to melt!!!

I got a call on Sunday morning, and went up to see what I could find - not much as it turns out.

Heres my bass speaker

The music stand was still recognisable

BUGGER - now I know a very little bit of how it feels to be in Victoris Australia over the last few weeks.

I'm a strong believer that my glass is half full, so I got in touch with my insurance company and have recieved a full payout for everything, and have significantly up dated my gear with no finacial input from me. :banana

Shit happens - but at least you can make fertilizer from it and grow veges eh.

No one was hurt and that is the biggest factor. Glad you also got some more tunage as music is the blood of life for some.

100% correct there, especially about the loss of life.

Personally music has been a major part of my life for longer than I can remember, and it's a bit like my bikes - without it something just isn't complete.

Yikes, lucky noone was in there and u got insurance.
I guess your bass and amps were like an old friend
to you? I'd be shattered if I lost my violin as it has
been in the family for nearly 120 years.
I'm glad it seems to have worked out as well as possible.

Glad everyone is okay, relationships etc, intact. Accidents such as this have the potential to tear people apart. I'm sure you will enjoy the new stuff Kiwi, and the history you had with the old, a happy memory. Cheers.
